I have always had a fascination with the number 13. Beyond all others this numbers holds my interest. Counting to 13 is one of my favorite activities. Trying to find patterns that lead to it, resolve to it, revert to it. There are many of these. None so enticing as the Fibonacci Sequence.
This sequence has been written about for centuries, and factors into most aspects of life. From the mundane to the magical, it is pretty much everywhere.
I have a take on the sequence that is (I guess) my own, though in sharing it with others I have found it to have resonance with them. Thus, I do not call it my own. I guess it is just something I will share for the sake of sharing it.
0 (Zero) - The Universe - Zero is the ‘Circle’ it is the highest (infinite) and lowest (nothing) embodiment of a factor that we have. Yet it is also an ephemeral elucidation of what is more than simply a digit describing what is not. It is everything contained within nothing.
R.W. Emerson wrote of the circle (in ‘Circles’)
“The eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end. It is the highest emblem in the cipher of the world. St. Augustine described the nature of God as a circle whose centre was everywhere, and its circumference nowhere.”
To me, the circle is zero in a form denoting all that is not numeric. It is a way to encompass that which will not be contained, describe that which fits no description.
1 - one - This describes me, as an individual. One, I am a singular entity. Composed of one body, one mind, one soul. I am.
1 - one - This describes you, as an individual. One, you are a singular entity. Composed of one body, one mind, one soul. You are.
Together, 1 and 1 (one and one), equals us. The collective one, the non separated parts of the whole. We can separate our selves and be one within the greater mass of humanity just as easily as we can combine our own individual selves and become one with each other. I am. You are. We are. Us.
2 - two - The charge, Positive - Negative. Two holds power in the lives of all. It is the biological imperative. It is truly us. Pairs are a constant in life. We seek to combine as we are based on a structure of cells dividing (one to two). 2 is the prime number that describes Us. It is one and one combined.
3 - three - The Past / The Present / The Future - The constraints of time and space bring these interchangeable ideas into existence. Regardless of the here and now being all that there is (if it is at all), the past present and future are what propels much of what we do. We look forward and back as a way to understand what is now.
5 - five - Time / Space / Light / Love / Home - These (for me) are the constructs of life. Within time (cycles) there exists space (a void) that is shown by light (light) and ruled by love ( the highest emotion) that all resides at home (where we are). This is a construct, one which resonates with me. All of these ideas have opposites, yet they do not dictate the charge by which they are propelled. They are not negative nor are they positive. They simply are. Combined they create a stability that is not possible without the others. Without one the structure breaks down upon itself.
8- eight - the Infinite - Eight is a numeric value that to me is the description of all things begining nowhere and ending nowhere. The infinite loop, resolving in on itself. Becoming itself as it creates itself. Perpetually moving, yet static.
